This was a composition for Vanier's drama production of "Blues", a not very happy play about homelessness. It uses sound effects from the incredible (and free!) Freesound project. The ZIP files are GarageBand project files for the recordings. Feel free to play with them, remix them, and use them anywhere! That would totally make my day.

Versions:

There are several GarageBand projects for each song; "-all" projects include extra takes to show how the song was put together, and "-final" projects are the final versions, with out-takes removed and a bit of extra volume tweaking.

About this project:

It was created in GarageBand using a Yamaha Clavinova keyboard (which also provided the drums) and my tenor saxophone, recorded using my Macbook's built-in mic (hooray for hi-fi!). The chord progression is basically Cm - Cm7/Bb - Fm7, with a D thrown in the Fm7 sometimes for extra crunchiness. The start of "Inner City Grunge" was inspired by the start of "Take The Long Way Home" by Supertramp (a very cool song.) I originally hoped to start it with harmonica, like the Supertramp song, except that I can't play harmonica, and only have a G major one. (Who knew that harmonicas have specific keys?! Not me!) So, saxophone it was, which makes this more of an improvisation than a composition. But it sure was fun to make.

This song is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, so go nuts with it. If you use it or remix it or record your own thing with pieces of it, that would seriously make my day. Please do! That would be awesome.

And, I'd like to really thank all the people at the Freesound project, since they are awesome. Seriously, check it out for all your sound effect needs. Did I mention it was free, and CC-licensed? Very cool.

And, thanks to the Internet Archive and all it's people. You rock. Sorry 'bout the file sizes!
